Crystal Lawns Church |
| Who We Are |
|
Crystal Lawns Church of the Nazarene is an evangelical church with roots in the Methodist church. We are a part of the denomination called the Church of the Nazarene. The name "Nazarene" is in reference to Jesus being called a Nazarene because of his upbringing in the city of Nazareth (Matthew 2:23). We are part of the Chicago Central District of the Church of the Nazarene. We are on the educational region of Olivet Nazarene University, a Christian, private, liberal arts university in Kankakee, Illinois, the Summer home of the Chicago Bears. Seven other Nazarene liberal arts colleges and universities exist throughout the United States plus one Bible College and one Seminary for graduate studies. The Church of the Nazarene currently has over 1.3 million members in nearly 12 thousand churches in the United States, Canada and 140 other world areas. |
| Fellowship, Growth and Ministry |
"The mission of Crystal Lawns Church is to "Be and Make Disciples of Jesus Christ." This takes place through a combination of vital elements in the life of the church. Worshiping the Lord Jesus Christ and hearing from His Word is the central purpose of our weekly times of celebration together. We also incorporate a number of ministries for fellowship, growth and opportunites to serve. It is this combination of encountering Him and being linked together with others that provides for our continued growth in becoming and making disciples of Jesus. Sunday School classes, bible training, small group formats and fellowship times are provided for each age group. Fellowship times for the entire church family together are also provided. A vital part of discipleship is also the realization of the call God has for each of us to ministry. To this end, a wide range of ministry opportunities are offered. One may be involved in such ministries as music and drama, missions work, children's ministry (those are approved through our Child Safety Screening process), work projects, and a variety of others. The purpose of the church is to help families and individuals know the reality of Jesus and what His calling is for their lives. We desire to be a church body that points to Him as our constant resource for living!" |
| Music |
| The music ministry consists of the Orchestra, Instrumental Specials, Vocal Specials, and the Praise & Worship Teams.
The Praise & Worship Teams are comprised of 4-5 people on a rotation basis, and are for anyone who would like to sing and help lead the congregation in worship. Everyone is welcome regardless of musical experience or ability as we only seek to worship the Lord. |
| Sunday School |
| Sunday School classes take place on Sunday mornings for all ages as a part of our overall plan of being and making disciples of Jesus Christ. Our Sunday Discipleship Training is focused on training and equipping Christians of all ages for ministry. All classes, including regular Bible classes for children, will meet from 9:30-10:30 AM. |
| Missions |
| Our desire is to do all we can to reach out to people in our community and around the world for Jesus Christ!
A church that cares, is a church not just on a mission to the world, but on a mission within it's community. Compassionate ministries is unfolding and developing with God's direction and power here at Crystal Lawns Church. A NMI (Nazarene Missions International) service is held once a month. These services provide opportunities to educate children, youth and adults in such areas as the progress of missions, the building of churches, missionary profiles and their families (sometimes in person), new technologies in missions, radio ministries in South America that reach people in need, and reading small format books of Nazarene missions. Let's focus on Jesus, together, and this huge task will not seem so overwhelming. |
